    Our Curriculum – RE

    'All individuals matter'

    At Winchelsea Primary School, we teach RE in accordance with the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus and Understanding Christianity. We believe that it is important for all children to learn about a range of faiths and backgrounds in order to develop compassion, empathy and tolerance, giving our children a firm foundation upon which to acknowledge differences in beliefs.

    Our lessons will provoke challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, ultimate reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. We will encourage pupils to learn about religious and non-religious world views in order to discover, explore and consider different answers to these questions.

    Winchelsea Primary School aims to:

    • develop pupils’ knowledge and understanding of Christianity as well as other principal religions and world views;
    • focus on concepts as well as content, within the context of enquiry-based learning;
    • explore authentic religious material such as sacred texts;
    • reflect diversity in terms of the changing religious landscape of the UK so that they are prepared for life in modern Britain;
    • engage and challenge pupils through a variety of experiences, visits, visitors and artefacts;
    • reflect pupils’ own experiences and provide a safe space for discussion;
    • provide opportunities for personal reflection and spiritual development;
    • help to prepare pupils for adult life, enabling them to develop respect and sensitivity for others.
