    Our Curriculum – Science

    'All individuals matter'

At Winchelsea Primary School, our intent is to give every child a broad, balanced and enjoyable science curriculum which enables them to confidently explore and discover the world around them. We want our children to experience memorable science lessons through exciting, practical hands-on experiences that encourage curiosity and questioning.

Children develop their ‘working scientifically’ skills which are taught through biology, chemistry and physics. These include:

    • Identifying and classifying
    • Observing over time
    • Fair testing
    • Pattern seeking

We use FROGs to help us to work like scientists...

The National Curriculum for Science aims to ensure that all pupils:
    ● develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
    ● develop an understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
    ● are equipped with the scientific skills required to understand the uses and implications of science today and in the future

Our aim is that these stimulating and challenging experiences help every child secure and extend their scientific knowledge and vocabulary. We have a balanced curriculum which has been carefully designed and developed alongside science specialists. This includes enrichment days with STEM ambassadors.
