Welcome to the spring term in Emerald class!
In literacy we are linking our writing to our topic of Brazil. We will be finding out lots of information. We will also do slow writing once a week where we will be learning even more grammatical features. Spelling will be taught on a weekly basis, with the children having these spellings to learn for homework. They will be tested on these the following week.
In numeracy, we will continue to build on place value and the four operations by applying these skills in word problem formats. We will also be looking at building on their knowledge from year 3, by looking at interpreting more complex line and bar charts. The children are tested weekly on their times tables. Some children, however, still do not know all of their times tables, please take the time to get your child to practice at home so they are not held back from their learning.
In science we are looking at animals, including humans, including their habitats and classification of the main 6 groups. We will also be looking at the Amazon rainforest as a habitat and how deforestation is affecting not only the vast amount of species that live there, but also the global impact it causes.
In PE we are learning netball. Please make sure your child has a suitable kit for indoor and outdoor use. Gloves, hats and tracksuits (with layers underneath) will keep your child warm in this chilly season.
Finally, our topic is Brazil where we are not only learning about the rainforest, but also the massive wealth divide within the country.
Just a reminder that your child can wear layers under their uniform to keep them warm, as in line with Government advice, the windows will be open to blow away Covid 19 particles.
