Spring Term 2024
Welcome back and happy new year! I hope you have had a lovely Christmas break and are well rested for a new term ahead.
Story World
In the first half of the term our topic is ‘Story World’, where we will be exploring traditional tales. The children will write their own stories, explore timbre and rhythmic patterns in fairy tales during music sessions and look at mechanisms in DT by making a moving story book. They will also use traditional tales during PE sessions with a focus on dance and gymnastics.
Jungle Jamboree
After half term our topic will be ‘Jungle Jamboree’, where we will be learning about jungle animals, specifically those that live in the Amazon Rainforest and endangered animals. We will investigate the location of jungles on the map and compare local woodland to the jungle. The children will explore classical music, dynamics and tempo using animals as a focus.
Physical Education
P.E. will take place on a Monday and a Wednesday this term. Please can you make sure your child has a suitable P.E. kit in school, these can be stored in their lockers and will be sent back home when we have done P.E. to be washed. For the first half of the term we will be doing P.E. indoors therefore the children need the correct footwear (either clean trainers or pumps). After half term we will be doing more outdoor based activities therefore the children will need outdoor trainers.
Ralph and Ralphina
As you know Ralph and Ralphina love to go on adventures and will each be going home with one child each week on a Friday. Please may you return them on Monday. I look forward to hearing about all of the fun adventures your child goes on with Ralph and Ralphina. We will make sure Ralph and Ralphina get a bath every week!
Homework, Reading Books and Spellings
Please make sure that reading records and books are always in their book bags and that they are brought into school every day! Please could you continue to encourage your children to go on Mathletics as part of maths homework. We will encourage the children to transport letters home to you when a paper copy is needed and bring the replies into class but we will not be going through their book bags. As a school we have moved to paperless so please check your emails regularly as my main form of communication will be via email. Please make sure all uniform, PE kits, tupperware and drinks bottles are clearly named; that way we can return them when they go missing. If there are any concerns please contact the office and leave a message or email me directly on alice.marshall@winchelsea.lincs.sch.uk. I am eager to ensure all children achieve and are happy during their time at school so please make contact if you have any issues. I will ensure my Twitter page is kept up to date with any relevant information and also examples of learning so please follow me so you know what is going on in Opal class.
