Welcome to Opal Class, Year One
Miss Marshall and Mrs Riley
In the first half of the term our topic was ‘Into The Woods’, where we explored traditional tales that focused on mythical and magical creatures that live in the deep, dark woods. The children learnt about famous tales and their authors, wrote their own stories and painted their own backgrounds using ICT based art. As part of science they grew some green beans and in six weeks the tallest grew to 78cm! During a busy first half term we experienced an ‘alien invasion’ as part of our immersive learning week, it was great fun and the children produced some fabulous work. We ended the term with a wonderful Teddy Bears Picnic where the parents came and enjoyed the food made by the children.
This term our topic will be ‘Jungle Jamboree’, where we will be learning about jungle animals, specifically those that live in the Amazon Rainforest. They will be researching Fairtrade food and how the Rainforest Alliance is working to protect the rainforest and the animals that live inside it. We have a cosy new rainforest reading corner in the classroom with some fantastic animal art for the children to enjoy – thank you Mrs Riley!
Our class mascot, Ralph, has been enjoying his adventures so far this year. He has been for adventures in the woods, to nature reserves, swimming, gymnastics, judo, gaming shops and many more! He cannot wait to see where he will go next!
