Welcome to Opal Class, Year One
Miss Marshall and Mrs Riley
Welcome to Year 1. There will be a few changes to Opal class for the summer term. Miss Marshall will now be teaching Opal class full time as Mrs Dunham is starting a new role within school, combining her SENDCO role with a health and wellbeing role. Mrs Dunham will still have contact with the class on a Monday afternoon when Miss Marshall has her NQT time. Mrs Riley will be remaining as teaching assistant for Opal class.
For the first half of the summer term our topic will be ‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside’. We will be learning about British coastlines and holidays by the seaside, both from the past and the present. The children will learn about plants and animals that live along the coast. We will also be learning about how the coastlines are changing because of the weather. After the May half-term our topic will change to ‘Our Oceans’ which is a mini topic as part of our seaside topic where we look at our animals that live in the oceans and how we can protect them.
We would like to re-introduce you to Ralph, our new class mascot. He loves to go on adventures and will be going home with one child each week. He comes with his own backpack and adventure book therefore it would be great if you could help your child to write/draw about the adventures they went on with Ralph so they can then share with the rest of the class what they got up to. We look forward to hearing about all of the fun adventures your child and Ralph go on.
Don’t forget to follow our class Twitter Feed for up to date information on what the class have been getting up to day to day, the Twitter Handles are
