Peridot class have worked very hard this term. We have successfully recapped the four operations in mathematics as well as understanding proper, improper and equivalent fractions. We are currently investigating decimals and percentages. In writing we have linked our learning to our topic, which is based on ‘Famous Artists’. We have written biographies on Frida Kahlo, Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky. Staying with the topic we have used the artists work to write descriptive texts and predictive texts. The children have, in their reading, recapped skimming and scanning and inference and deduction and we hope to see the benefits of these lessons in next term’s assessments.
In science we have been investigating ‘Living Things and their Habitats’ learning about the life cycles of humans and plants. The children were fascinated with how a plant is pollinated and how seeds are dispersed to reproduce. We used music with art to replicate the style of Wassily Kandinsky and the children produced great art using music as an aid.
During PE we have been learning about the importance of attacking, defending and space in hockey and tag rugby.
Our topic will change next term and we will investigate Africa, the socio – economic climate of the continent, how it’s geographical location affects it’s economy and we will be having a visit from a representative of Water Aid. Lots of fun stuff ahead.
